‘Deadly’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex McLeish compares Rangers new signing to club legend

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has claimed that Kemar Roofe reminds him of “deadly” Rangers legend Ally McCoist.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss suggested that the 27-year-old possesses the same “knack” for popping up in dangerous areas as the ex-Scotland hitman.

Roofe has scored twice in his last three league outings for Steven Gerrard’s side, but it was his strike against Dundee United that really pleased McLeish.

Speaking to Ibrox News, the esteemed boss said: “That goal the other day against Dundee, the slide in at the end, reminded me of Ally McCoist.

“Ally slid in at that back post 10 times, and the only time you noticed him doing that was the time he scored.

“He did it all the time. He took that gamble. His nickname was the Polecat and he was deadly in the box.

“We admire strikers like that, who’ve got that kind of knack to get on the end of things.”

Roofe has made five appearances for the Gers since signing from Anderlecht in a deal worth around £4.5 million this summer.

Things haven’t all been plain sailing for the former Leeds United man so far, however, and a bothersome calf injury picked up in the win over Lincoln Red Imps last week could see him sidelined for a short period of time, according to manager Gerrard.

In other Rangers news, fans slammed this player for his first-half display against Hibs.
