Charlie Adam makes major transfer claim about Rangers ‘disaster waiting to happen’

Charlie Adam has claimed that he believes Alfredo Morelos will stay at Rangers this summer.

The former Ibrox midfielder admitted that the South American is a “disaster waiting to happen”, but also suggested that the Gers would struggle to find a player who can match his goalscoring capabilities.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 24-year-old has been the subject of an £18 million “take-it-or-leave-it” offer from French side Lille in recent days.

But Adam has admitted that he has been convinced that selling Morelos could be a misstep from the Gers.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, he said: “At the start I was saying get rid of him.

“He didn’t play well on Sunday [against Hibernian], so you can give him that one game, but I don’t know where they would replace his goals.

“I like Morelos, I think he’s a good player. He’s a disaster waiting to happen at times, but he scores goals, and I don’t know how Rangers would replace his goals if they want to go and win the league.

“The way it is, I think he’ll stay. They need another midfielder and I think they are trying to get another striker through the door as well. There are one or two players that Rangers need, but it’s going to be a tough, tough season.”

Will Morelos stay at Ibrox?

If you’d have asked us that exact question a month ago, we would have been inclined to say no.

Even Sky Sports News were reporting that the Colombian had agreed a deal to join Lille, and it looked for all the world that he was on his way out after Steven Gerrard dropped him against Kilmarnock.

But three goals in his last two appearances, plus a renewed sense of enthusiasm surrounding his game, seems that have thrown into doubt any certainty we had over his future, or lack thereof, in Glasgow.

If this last offer from Lille doesn’t lure the Gers into selling then there is every chance they won’t get a better one from elsewhere, and if that is the case, then don’t be surprised to see Morelos still playing his football in a Rangers shirt come mid-October.

As improbable as it was just a few weeks ago, it now looks like a distinct possibility.
