Reliable journalist delivers significant Rangers transfer update as big eight-figure bid tabled

Lille have tabled a fresh bid of £18.3m for striker Alfredo Morelos and it hasn’t been rejected by Rangers, according to WinSportsTV journalist, Pipe Sierra.

Sierra delivered the update on Sunday night after Morelos started for the Gers and scored in a disappointing 2-2 draw.

It was Morelos’ third goal of the season and his first start in four games, with speculation rife about him leaving Ibrox.

Colombian journalist Sierra also said that Fiorentina and West Brom have made their interest in the striker official.

Is £18.3m enough?

Lille had previously bid £16m for Morelos, with the Gers saying it wasn’t enough.

Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, 24/08, 10.45am), Jim White said, “We know Lille have bid just over £16m, Rangers are saying it’s not enough.”

Is £18.3m enough to land the in-demand striker?

Sierra says the bid hasn’t been rejected but he didn’t say it has been accepted. However, it must be getting near the level that Rangers would do business at.

The big problem is that Kemar Roofe is currently out injured and he’s a player who’s suffered from various problems in the past.

Jermain Defoe is also out and can’t be relied on throughout the season because of his age.

If Morelos does go then Steven Gerrard will need to move quickly and look to bring in a quality replacement.

A fee close to £20m would facilitate that but it’s a move that Rangers will have to get right. And losing Morelos partway through the season will be a big blow in a really important season.
