‘Madness’ – Many Rangers fans react to transfer report that would end ‘any chance’ of silverware

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to express their desire for keeping Alfredo Morelos amid renewed interest from Lille.

The Colombian started for the first time in four matches for the Gers on Sunday during the 2-2 draw against Hibernian, and even managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a well-taken finish.

Later in the day, reliable South American journalist Pipe Sierra then tweeted to claim that the Ligue 1 outfit had tabled a bid of around £18.3 million for the 24-year-old.

Morelos has been linked with Lille already this summer, with Sky even going as far as to suggest that he had agreed a deal to join the European side.

But while speculation has been rife about his future for some time, it would appear that there is still a significant section of the fanbase who are eager for him to stay at Ibrox this season.

The general consensus among fans holding that stance is that the South American is too valuable to let go.

You can completely understand that viewpoint too.

Even though Morelos has been in and out of the side this term, he has still hit five goals in seven appearances across all competitions.

Sure, his form dipped last term, but he appears to have rediscovered his knack for goalscoring, and in a title race that has more riding on it than any in recent memory, it would surely be unwise to willingly sell a player of his talents.

Of course, £18 million or so wouldn’t come in wrong, and we could presumably pursue some serious firepower for that amount of money – but with the end of the transfer window edging ever closer, would we actually have time to bring in a suitable replacement?

We’re not so sure.
