Ally McCoist makes ‘bizarre’ VAR claim despite multiple incidents in Rangers draw v Hibs

Ally McCoist has admitted that he would not like to see VAR introduced in the Scottish Premier League, despite Rangers conceding a goal which should not have stood against Hibernian.

The Gers drew 2-2 at Easter Road on Sunday, after conceding a late equaliser through Christian Doidge’s header.

The goal shouldn’t have actually stood, with Martin Boyle confirmed as offside during the replays in the build-up to the goal.

McCoist claimed that he preferred the goal standing rather than all of the “nonsense” being caused by VAR in the Premier League.

“My team had a goal disallowed for offside in the build-up yesterday,” he said, via the Daily Record.

“Just offside, now the linesman doesn’t do his job, doesn’t see it, doesn’t give it. Do you know something? I actually preferred that in a bizarre way than all this nonsense going to VAR.”

Rangers

We understand where McCoist is coming from, but having VAR in Scotland could have really benefitted the Gers on Sunday.

There were a number of incidents in the game that Hibernian and their players got away with, including their equalising goal.

There were two contentious incidents in the first-half, starting with Paul Hanlon’s challenge on Ianis Hagi, a stray elbow to the face – one which Kris Boyd claimed was a red card “all day long”.

As well as that, Ryan Porteous tangled with Alfredo Morelos and although that didn’t look as dangerous, who knows what could have happened.

The point being made here is that if there was VAR in Scotland, Rangers would most likely have left Easter Road with all three points.
