‘Out of this world’ – Ally McCoist blown away by Rangers ace who made a fool out of Porteus
Ally McCoist was drooling over Ianis Hagi’s assist for Scott Arfield’s goal as Rangers drew 2-2 against Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday.
Arfield, 31, bagged his second goal in as many Scottish Premiership matches after a sweet one-two with 21-year-old Hagi just inside the Hibs penalty area in the second half.
Hagi has been in fine form since arriving at Ibrox and had Rangers legend McCoist off his seat with his sublime role in Arfield’s goal – especially when he made a fool out of Ryan Porteus.
“[I’ve been] slightly critical of him because he’s half a yard short of being top-class but this ball back there is out of this world,” said McCoist during commentary on Sky Sports Main Event on Sunday afternoon.
McCoist then added: “Some things are simple – but they’re brilliant,”
“He doesn’t take a touch, he gives it [Arfield] straight back and that completely wrong-foots Porteus.
“I think it’s excellent play, I really do.”
After the match, Steven Gerrard revealed that Porteus told James Tavernier he was a “bad loser“, leading the Gers boss to criticise the Hibs defender for his actions [Glasgow Evening Times].
But Porteus must’ve been fuming over been absolutely mugged off by Hagi in the build-up to Arfield’s goal.
It was a sublime bit of play from the Romania international and we want to see him pulling off more passes like that as the season goes on.
Although we’re fans of Hagi, McCoist is right in saying he’s on the verge of being a top player but just isn’t quite meeting expectations.
But if he can pull off moves like he did versus Hibs on a more regular basis, all doubts will be quashed.
We have to remember that Hagi is only 21-years-old.
In other Rangers news, Gerrard confirmed some worrying injury news after the draw at Hibs.
