Rangers Exclusive: Euro journo backs new player who hasn’t ‘landed yet’ to be ‘perfect’ addition

Ibrox News recently conducted an exclusive interview with renowned journalist Hanspeter Kuenzler to get his views on Rangers new boy Cedric Itten. Kuenzler is a UK sport correspondent for Swiss publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung

Cedric Itten’s natural physicality should make him a “perfect” addition for Rangers this season, according to Swiss journalist Hanspeter Kuenzler.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung correspondent admitted that the 23-year-old is not the most technically gifted player, but argued that his presence on the field more than makes up for his shortcomings.

Itten enjoyed a prolific season in Switzerland last term, hitting 20 goals across all competitions for St. Gallen.

He subsequently joined the Gers in a deal worth around £2.7 million, and Kuenzler believes he possesses the right attributes to make an impact.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I would have thought that his physical attributes can bring him quite far in Scotland.

“In many ways, I think he is perfect for Scottish football.

“He is technically good – not fantastically fantastic, but he is technically good. But the strong physical manner of his game and his nose for a good position I would have thought will stand him in good stead in most games in the Scottish Premiership.

“He hasn’t really landed yet though, still hasn’t scored a goal.”

Itten has endured a stuttering start to life in Glasgow, failing to find the back of the net in any of his first five appearances across all competitions.

Steven Gerrard appears to be willing to show some faith in the hitman, however, and opted to start him up front in the 5-0 demolition of Lincoln Red Imps in midweek.
