‘The potential is big’ – Exclusive: Euro journo backs new Rangers ace to develop in ‘major way’
Ibrox News recently conducted an exclusive interview with renowned journalist Hanspeter Kuenzler to get his views on Rangers new boy Cedric Itten. Kuenzler is a UK sport correspondent for Swiss publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung…
Rangers summer signing Cedric Itten has the potential to develop in a “major way” for his new club, according to Swiss journalist Hanspeter Kuenzler.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung correspondent argued that the £2.7 million fee the Gers paid out for the striker represents great value for money.
The Switzerland international arrived in Glasgow from St. Gallen in August having hit 20 goals in his home country over the course of the 2019/20 campaign.
And Kuenzler is in no doubt that the 23-year-old can be a success in Scotland.
When asked whether the deal that brought Itten to Rangers was a smart piece of business, he told Ibrox News: “Absolutely. Completely.
“They have a player who obviously is totally capable of developing in a major way.
“I’d imagine Steven Gerrard knows what he’s doing and has hopes in that direction. He may not be the finished article, but certainly the potential is big.
“I mean, £2.7 million – you can barely get a Twix for that kind of money anymore.”
Itten has yet to find the back of the net for Gerrard’s men, featuring in his fifth game of the campaign in the Europa League clash with Lincoln Red Imps on Thursday evening.
The forward is held in high esteem back in his home country, however, and has three goals in just two appearances for Switzerland’s senior international setup.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have a player-plus-cash deal on the cards, club ready to swap centre-mid & forward.
