‘Real blow’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex McLeish laments injury update on key Rangers talent
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Ryan Jack’s ongoing injury issues will be a “real blow” for Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss lamented that midfielder’s absence from Steven Gerrard’s starting XI, and suggested that he could be sidelined for a while.
The 28-year-old was forced off in the early stages of his side’s 4-0 win over Dundee United at the weekend, and was unavailable to feature in the Europa League clash against Lincoln Red Imps on Thursday evening.
Gerrard then confirmed on Friday morning that the player will not be fit in time to face Hibernian on Sunday lunchtime either, and could even be a doubt for next month’s Old Firm against Celtic.
And McLeish has claimed that his absence is a setback for his old club.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It wasn’t an impact injury, it was a pull, and the difference with that is night and day.
“If it was a pull it’s a couple of weeks, maybe more.
“I know that physios are up to speed with the science and everything, but that is a blow to Rangers, a real blow.”
Prior to this injury, Jack had been an ever-present for Rangers this season, starting all seven of their Scottish Premiership matches so far.
The midfielder also featured in Scotland’s 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw against Israel earlier this month, but was rested for the 2-1 win over the Czech Republic a few days later.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have a player-plus-cash deal on the cards, club ready to swap centre-mid & forward.
