‘Wow’, ‘Stunner’ – Many Rangers fans blown away by ‘underrated’ talent at HT v Lincoln

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on James Tavernier for his first half contribution against Lincoln Red Imps.

The Gers skipper was on hand to open the scoring in Gibraltar with a stunner of a free-kick, and it had some supporters wondering whether they’d fallen into some kind of wormhole.

Once upon a time it felt as if we could barely go a fortnight without seeing the full-back bury a set-piece of some description into the back of the net.

In recent times, his performances in front of goal have tailed off a little though.

Last term, he managed just three strikes all season, compared to 17 the year before.

With his first effort tonight, however, Tavernier has already equalled his tally for the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign, and you wouldn’t bet against him reaching double figures again at this rate.

Just as importantly, his general level of output looks to have improved too.

So far this season, his shot accuracy is 23.8% better than it was last term, while pass accuracy is 6.2% better and his crossing 3.9% better, as per Wyscout.

Across the board, on the front foot, he is beginning to look more like his old self.

And if we can start to get the best out of our captain once more, that can only be a good thing for Steven Gerrard’s men.
