Exclusive: McLeish questions whether Rangers ace Morelos would be successful for West Brom

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has questioned whether Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would be a dangerous addition for Premier League new boys West Brom if he were to sign for them this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss suggested that the South American could be a danger on the counter-attack for the Baggies, but would not receive the same level of service that he does for Steven Gerrard’s men.

As per Football Insider, Albion are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old as they look to bolster their forward options upon their return to the top flight.

And McLeish has delivered his verdict on Morelos’ chances of making an impact in England.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Steven Gerrard will have the best idea of him, seeing him in training every single day – his strengths, his weaknesses.

“It strikes me that if teams are playing very high up the pitch then possibly he could breach defences. He’s clever and he’s quick. Whether he’s quick enough to get away from the speed of the top Premier League players, that’s another story.

“But certainly, if West Brom were to be playing more of a defensive shape, then maybe he would be dangerous on the counter attack.

“If you’re expecting West Brom to attack and be in the opposition penalty box every game of the season like Rangers are – I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Morelos has scored twice for the Gers this season, as well as assisting two more.

The Colombian has featured in five of Rangers’ first seven Scottish Premiership matches, but was stretched off in the 4-0 win against Dundee United on Saturday.
