Exclusive: McLeish claims West Brom move could be 'big temptation' for Rangers ace Morelos
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that the prospect of earning more money in the Premier League with West Brom will be a “big temptation” for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss admitted that it would be an attractive prospect for the Colombian to go and play in England, even if the Baggies are “not anywhere near the size” of his old club.
According to Football Insider, Albion have registered their interest in the 24-year-old ahead of a potential swoop this summer.
And McLeish has suggested that the financial lure of the cash-rich Premier League could be enough to turn the player’s head.
Asked whether Morelos would be happy with a move to The Hawthorns during an interview with Ibrox News, he said: “Sometimes you don’t get that opportunity to choose.
“West Brom are now in the Premier League and they will still be an attractive proposition for him.
“They’re not anywhere near the size of Rangers, but they do have funds that perhaps Rangers do not at this moment in time because of the TV rights money and all the mod cons that go with the Premier League. That will be a big temptation.
“A lot of players will put the money factor ahead of everything else. There’s absolutely no doubting that it’s attractive to players that are outside of that league.”
Morelos has featured in five of Rangers’ seven Scottish Premiership matches so far this term, scoring on two occasions.
The South American was stretchered off against Dundee United on Saturday, however, after being subjected to horror challenge that left a visible wound on his leg.
