Exclusive: McLeish claims Rangers ace Kamara will have gained ‘big boost’ from int’l minutes

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has suggested that Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara will have gained a “big boost” by playing for Finland in midweek.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss claimed that the 24-year-old will have gained vital match “sharpness” in the UEFA Nations League double-header against Wales and the Republic of Ireland.

Kamara played a full 90 minutes in both of those games despite being benched for Rangers’ most recent outing against Hamilton just prior to the international break.

But McLeish has argued that another substantial chunk of game time will go a long way towards helping him reach his top form.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Getting in the games for his international team will be a big boost fitness-wise.

“I’m sure sharpness is very important when you’re starting a league campaign too.

“It can be difficult to get your sharpness going, because I always remember, your preseason training, your legs would feel so heavy when you started the season, but you knew that you had the fitness inside you that can last you the whole season.

“I think sometimes it can take five or six games before you to find your true form.”

Kamara started all four of Rangers’ opening quartet of Scottish Premiership matches this term.

He then dropped down to the bench for the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock, and was unable to reclaim his place against the Accies.
