Exclusive: Alex McLeish backs Rangers to name unchanged lineup v Dundee Utd

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox..

Alex McLeish has backed Steven Gerrard to name an unchanged lineup when Rangers face Dundee United on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss suggested that the current manager would be unwilling to make too many alterations to a winning side.

So far this term, Rangers have won five and drawn one of their opening six Scottish Premiership matches.

They are yet to concede a goal either, and McLeish has suggested that keeping things as they were for the 2-0 win over Hamilton is the best course of action.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: I wouldn’t be surprised if Steven keeps a winning, successful team the same.

“No goals against either which is very impressive.

“Obviously there was a wee blip in one of the games – not quite what he would have hoped for at Livingston – but I do believe that when you get on a wee run like that the managers tend to keep it the same.

“For me, keep things the way they are for the game against Dundee and it should be another win.”

Gerrard has no fresh injury worries to contend with, although the boss did reveal in a press conference on Friday that Joe Aribo is set for up to six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury.

In more positive injury news, Jermain Defoe, Cedric Itten, and Borna Barisic have all returned to full training after recent complaints.
