Exclusive: Glasgow Live journo questions Greg Docherty Rangers departure
Ibrox News recently conducted an exclusive interview with Glasgow Live journalist Chris Doyle to get his views on some of the biggest talking points involving Rangers right now…
Glasgow Live journalist Chris Doyle has admitted that he didn’t agree with Steven Gerrard’s decision to allow Greg Docherty to leave Rangers this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the reliable reporter argued that the midfielder’s age and recent form suggested that he still had more to offer the Gers.
The 24-year-old left Scotland to sign for Hull City earlier in the transfer window, despite showing impressive attacking talents during his time with Hibernian in the second half of last season.
Docherty registered three goals and five assists in eight games for Jack Ross’ men before having his stint cut short by the curtailment of the Scottish domestic season.
And Doyle would have liked to have seen him given a greater chance to prove himself with Rangers before sealing his permanent departure.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Docherty has gone out – I think with Gerrard, that’s the one bit of business I didn’t really agree with.
“Jamie Murphy moved on and I didn’t really see him having a career.
“But the way that Docherty performed on loan spells and his age, I still think he had an awful lot to give. He clearly mustn’t have matched up with the style that Gerrard wanted.
“I know there has been a mixed reaction to him leaving.”
Docherty featured 19 times for Rangers at first team level, making six assists in that time.
His last league outing for the Gers came in April 2018.
