Exclusive: Glasgow Live journo backs McLaughlin to retain Rangers number one spot
Ibrox News recently conducted an exclusive interview with Glasgow Live journalist Chris Doyle to get his views on some of the biggest talking points involving Rangers right now…
Jon McLaughlin has done enough to retain his current spot as Rangers number one when Allan McGregor returns from injury, according to Glasgow Live journalist Chris Doyle.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the reliable reporter backed Gers boss Steven Gerrard to manage both players effectively over the course of the campaign, but also argued that McLaughlin’s “rich vein of form” could make him undroppable.
The 32-year-old arrived in Glasgow on a free transfer from Sunderland earlier this summer, and has been called into first team action ever since McGregor picked up a knock in the Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last month.

Since stepping into the starting XI, the Scotland international has not conceded a goal in five consecutive Scottish Premiership matches.
His dependable displays between the sticks have helped Gerrard’s men to equal a 114-year old record for the most clean sheets kept in straight games at the beginning of a Scottish top flight season.
And Doyle has argued that the number one jersey is now McLaughlin’s to lose.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I would say you have to stick with the keeper who is playing well and is in form.
“It was a really smart move to bring him in, just because of his experience. He’s not flashy, but he doesn’t put a foot wrong, which is kind of what you’re looking for.
“I think McGregor is at that age where he maybe wouldn’t be expecting to play every single game. I think Gerrard will manage them both to keep them both happy.
“McGregor will understand as well that McLaughlin is in a rich vein of form, and he knows that that he will need to work his way back into the team. He will get his chance because he’s been amazing – arguably Gerrard’s best signing since he came in.”

McLaughlin’s recent efforts at club level have been rewarded with a call-up to the Scottish international setup for the UEFA Nations League ties against Israel and Czech Republic.
Scotland boss Steve Clarke opted to start with Derby County goalkeeper David Marshall in both of those games, however.
In other Rangers news, we bring you another exclusive, as Frank McAvennie claims Alfredo Morelos could upset the Ibrox dressing room if he stays.
