HLN journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen has claimed that “everybody” at Anderlecht has already forgotten Rangers new boy Kemar Roofe.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the reliable reporter – who covers the Belgian side for the country’s biggest news publication – suggested that club chiefs were “happy to see him go”.
Roofe joined the Gers earlier this summer in a deal worth around £4.5 million after spending a year on the continent with Vincent Kompany’s side.
In a previous exclusive with Ibrox News, Calcoen revealed that Roofe had been on a salary of around £1.7 million per year.
And the journalist has suggested that those in the boardroom at Lotto Park were eager to get him off the wage bill.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “The fans didn’t know he was earning as much as he was.
“I just wrote when he left that it was the best transfer of Anderlecht’s window because of his wages.
“But between the fans, there were some who liked him. Others didn’t like him. He was just anonymous almost, I would say. I wouldn’t say every fan was happy to see him leave, but every person who works at Anderlecht was happy to see him go. Certainly the board were happy to be able to sell him for quite a big amount.
“They don’t miss him at Anderlecht. Everybody has forgotten Kemar Roofe.”
Roofe featured 16 times for Anderlecht during an injury-ravaged season in Europe.
Despite his complaints, however, he still managed to register seven goals across all competitions.
