Exclusive: Alex McLeish claims Steven Gerrard is ‘massive draw’ for Rangers in transfer market

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has claimed that Steven Gerrard’s presence in the dugout will be a “massive draw” for Rangers when they try to lure players to the club.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss also suggested that the Glaswegian giants are a “magic” establishment with a hugely impressive history.

Gerrard has been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in six senior players already.

And McLeish is under no illusion that the ex-Liverpool legend’s reputation makes it easier for Rangers to attract talents to Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “The Steven Gerrard factor is obviously there – people like Gary McAllister at his side, that’s a factor as well – and having him at Rangers Football Club is a massive draw.

“When you see that stadium and you do a little bit on the computer and find out what Rangers is about, you’ll be mightily impressed.

“Dado Prso, who I brought in, the Croatian centre-forward, we brought him in on a Bosman transfer from Monaco and he had played at Ibrox and he couldn’t believe the stadium, the crowd, the atmosphere – he said: ‘Oh I’d love to play here someday’.

“That’s the magic of Rangers Football Club.”

Gerrard has not been afraid to dip his toe into the transfer market during his time in Scotland in an effort to help Rangers close the gap on bitter rivals Celtic.

In fact, of the 11 players he named in his most recent starting lineup against Hamilton, nine were talents who have joined the club since he arrived in 2018.

In other Rangers news, we bring you another exclusive, as Frank McAvennie claims Alfredo Morelos could upset the Ibrox dressing room if he stays.
