Exclusive: Alex McLeish claims Ryan Jack is becoming ‘more and more confident’ for Rangers
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Former Rangers manager Alex McLeish has claimed that Ryan Jack is becoming “more and more confident” in his deep-lying midfield role for Steven Gerrard’s men.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the ex-Gers boss stated that the Scotland international is “definitely” a first choice pick in any big games for the Glaswegian giants.
Jack has featured in all six of Rangers’ opening Scottish Premiership games so far this term, and has helped them to an unbeaten start heading into the current international break.
And McLeish believes that the player has cemented his place in Gerrard’s plans for the foreseeable future.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think at the moment, yeah, definitely, I would say Ryan Jack would be a first-choice for Steven in all of the big games.
“Okay, when it comes to rotation and giving people a rest then of course he’ll try and save his legs a bit for the harder moments of the season. The Premiership is gruelling.
“Steven’s certainly put a lot of faith in him and you start to the see the dividends of Jack’s tenure at Ibrox in the last couple of years, and that he’s becoming more and more confident as a deeper lying midfielder.”
Jack joined the Gers from Aberdeen in a free transfer in 2017, a year prior to Gerrard arriving at Ibrox.
Since then, the 28-year-old has gone on to make 112 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring nine goals and assisting 11 more.
