‘Heard it all before’ – Rangers Exclusive: McAvennie reacts to mooted Porto interest in Morelos
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish international Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Frank McAvennie has claimed that he has “heard it all before” when it comes to speculation surrounding Alfredo Morelos’ future at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Celtic striker suggested that the Colombian forward is likely to leave Glasgow this summer if any club puts in a higher bid than the £18 million or so that French side Lille are understood to have offered.
A recent report from The Scottish Sun stated that FC Porto are the latest team to enter the fray for the striker’s services.
But McAvennie is unconvinced by the latest piece of speculation, and has argued that Morelos will only leave Rangers as and when an appropriate offer is made.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It all seems to be speculation.
“People were saying that the deal was done with Lille – I’ve heard it all before.
“I’ve always said that you’re only as good as what people want to pay for you. If somebody offers more than the £18 million that Lille put up for Morelos, he’s gone. There’s no two ways about it.
“If he wants to be there, then fine, but he’s got to show the supporters that he wants to be there.”
Morelos has not featured in either of Rangers’ last two Scottish Premiership matches, although he did make the bench in Steven Gerrard’s match day squad against Hamilton last weekend.
In his absence, summer signing Kemar Roofe has stepped into the first team picture, and scored his first goal for the club in the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock recently.
In other Rangers news, Leon Balogun has started life in Glasgow brilliantly.
