Report – FC Porto ready to enter race for Rangers striker Morelos this summer

FC Porto are readying themselves to enter the race for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to the Scottish Sun

The national publication suggest that the Portuguese giants have resigned themselves to losing star man Moussa Marega in the coming weeks.

It is understood that the forward is angling for a move to England this summer, and is refusing to sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in 12 months’ time.

If he Marega does leave, Porto could turn their attentions to Morelos.

The Colombian scored both home and away against the club in the Europa League last season, and it is understood that they have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old.

The Sun points out that Rangers are still holding out for at least £18 million for Morelos, and are in no particular rush to cash in on him.

Could Morelos join Porto?

It’s certainly feasible.

The Portuguese league feels like it could be a decent level for the South American – not one of the top five leagues in Europe, but definitely more consistently competitive than Scotland.

That being said, let’s not forget that we took four points out of six against Porto in the Europa League last season – so maybe the step up wouldn’t be as big as you may initially think.

As for Morelos himself, it would be a borderline miracle if he is still a Rangers players come the end of the transfer window.

BBC pundit Ricky Foster has even gone as far as to argue that his career at Ibrox is already “over”, and after failing to get onto the pitch for a second consecutive game at the weekend, it’s hard to see a way back for El Bufalo.

Provided Porto are willing to stump up the £18 million that the Gers are asking for, there’s no reason to believe that this one can’t go ahead.

In other Rangers news, Leon Balogun has started life in Glasgow brilliantly.
