‘Massive potential’ – Many Rangers fans react to Lewis Mayo contract signing

Rangers fans have taken to to social media to express their delight at Lewis Mayo signing a new contract with the club.

The Gers confirmed the news via their official Twitter account on Monday.

The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Ibrox until at least 2023.

The starlet has been on the books with the Gers since he was seven years old, but has yet to make his competitive debut for Steven Gerrard’s men.

Nonetheless, there is plenty of hype surrounding the youngster, with one fan highlighting his “massive potential” and many others pointing to his bright future.

We saw a glimpse of that potential during preseason too.

As previously examined by Ibrox News, the defender put in a solid display against Lyon.

In an 18 minute cameo, Mayo completed two out of his three attempted passes, had a duel success rate of 100%, an aerial duel success rate of 100%, made three ball recoveries, and two interceptions, as per Wyscout.

He has also drawn big praise from former academy coach Peter Lovenkrands in the past, and few people are as well qualified to talk about Rangers youth prospects as the Dane.

Hopefully, this new contract will give Mayo plenty of opportunity to continue his develop and eventually realise his obvious potential in a first team environment.

Competition for places at the heart of defence is strong right now, but he is definitely one to keep an eye on.
