‘Big blow’ – Rangers Exclusive: Frank McAvennie delivers verdict on Ryan Kent transfer situation
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish international Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Frank McAvennie has claimed that it would be a “big blow” for Rangers to lose Ryan Kent this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Celtic striker suggested that the Gers are ordinarily a selling club, but will be reluctant to part with their best talent before the end of the transfer window as they look to prevent Celtic from winning a 10th consecutive league title this term.
The ex-Liverpool man has emerged as a target for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United in recent days, with Steven Gerrard’s men rejecting a bid of around £10 million last week.
The Whites are understood to be readying a second bid of around £14 million for Kent, but McAvennie has argued that fans would be up in arms if the Gers do let him leave – regardless of the price.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It’s a big blow to lose anyone, but to lose one of your best, I don’t think the fans would be too happy about it, that’s for sure.
“I keep saying it, Rangers are a selling club. But I’ve got a feeling that Gerrard will want to hold on to him this year, just to try and get that title off Celtic.
“Again, with the finances that are rumoured at Rangers, you would think that if someone where to come up and offer a good amount of money they would be tempted to take it.
“It would have to be a big profit.”
Kent has played a starring role for the Gers so far this term, scoring three goals in his first six Premiership matches of the new campaign.
The wide man registered seven goals in 21 league outings for Gerrard’s side across the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign.
