Report – Rangers winger Jamie Murphy nearing Hibernian transfer
Hibernian are set to complete the signing for Rangers winger Jamie Murphy, according to the Glasgow Times.
The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour at Ibrox in recent seasons, and made just two Scottish Premiership appearances last term.
He then spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan at League One Burton Albion, registering seven goals in 10 outings south of the border.
It is understood that a deal for the wide man is nearing completion, with the report stating that he is preparing to put pen to paper for Jack Ross’ men.
Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard has previously admitted that he would not stand in the way of Murphy leaving the club if an appropriate offer came in for the player.
Is this the right move for Murphy?
Truthfully, it is probably time for Murphy to move on.
The 31-year-old shone brightly during his loan spell with Burton, scoring a goal every 123 minutes in League One last term.
As a point of reference, Ryan Kent scored one goal every 218 minutes in the Scottish Premiership last season.
Murphy has endured dreadful luck with injury during his time in Glasgow, and has never properly recovered his place in the pecking order since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury two years ago.
At 31, he still has time on his side, but is very much at a point in his career where playing regular first team football will be a priority for him.
He should get that opportunity at Hibernian, and if he does wrap up that switch, all we can do is wish a very talented player the best of luck at his new club.
In other Rangers news, Bruce claims Rangers will want to ‘build team around’ this player.
