‘Something’s going on’ – Ibrox Exclusive: McAvennie delivers verdict on Morelos Rangers future

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish international Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Frank McAvennie has claimed that he expects Alfredo Morelos to try and force through an exit from Rangers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Celtic striker suggested that he would like to see the Colombian “talent” stay in Scottish football.

But after the 24-year-old was omitted from Steven Gerrard’s match day squad against Kilmarnock last weekend, McAvennie has argued that his time in Glasgow could be coming to an end.

When asked by Ibrox News whether it was likely that Morelos would look to force a move away from Rangers this summer, he said: “I think so.

“I can only go by what I’ve heard, and the rumours are that he’s so far down the pecking order because his attitude isn’t right. You’ve got to say, why was he left out? There’s all the transfer talk, but there’s been talk every other season.

“I’ve seen a couple of Rangers fans saying he’s not fit, but then everyone wrote him off and he scored two goals [against St. Mirren]. But then he’s out the team and it gets you thinking. Something’s going on.

“He’s a talent, and I want talent to stay in Scotland, but if the boy is wanting away, Steven Gerrard will show him the door.”

Prior to being dropped against Killie, Morelos had started every game for the Gers this season.

A recent report from The Glasgow Times suggested that the club are awaiting the next move of French outfit Lille, who are understood to be keen on securing a deal for the South American this summer.

In other Rangers news, Bruce claims Rangers will want to ‘build team around’ this player.
