Rangers View: Chances of Gers green lighting Marseille loan bid for Morelos are surely very slim
Marseille’s attempt to secure a loan deal for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos this summer is absolutely ludicrous.
According to French outfit Le10Sport, the Ligue 1 club have entered the race for the Colombian, but would prefer to take him on loan instead of striking a permanent deal.
The report suggests that talks have already been opened between the two sides.
Marseille are said to be struggling financially, however, and it will be unlikely that they can meet Rangers’ valuation of the player, with Steven Gerrard’s men still holding out for upwards of £20 million.
And with the French club instead pushing for a temporary deal, the report concedes that this one could be a “complicated” one to complete.
Bearing all of that in mind, we can say t this stage, with a decent degree of certainty, that the chances of this happening are very, very slim.
Of course, things could change, but there is absolutely no merit to Rangers sending Morelos out on loan this summer.
Either he stays at Ibrox and they reap the benefits of his talent, or he leaves the club and they reap the benefits of a sizeable transfer fee.
A loan would give them neither.
If there is one French club who could have a chance at landing a deal for Morelos, it is perhaps Lille, who have expressed an interest in the South American before.
According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, Morelos has formally requested that the Gers accept a bid of around £18 million that has been submitted for him by the European side.
Given that he was omitted from Steven Gerrard’s squad against Kilmarnock, it does feel as if an exit could be on the cards, but if the Glaswegian giants aren’t willing to accept a bid of around £18 million, there is no way they’re going to green light a loan.
