‘He looks unfit’ – James McFadden criticises Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

James McFadden has criticised Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos for looking unfit so far this season.

The Colombian was left out of Steven Gerrard’s squad for the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday, with new boy Kemar Roofe starting in his place and finding the back of the net on his full debut.

Morelos has repeatedly been linked with an exit in recent weeks, with AC Milan emerging as the most recent club to express an interest, as per Football Insider.

And while McFadden believes he will leave, the former Scotland international has also hit out at the 24-year-old for not putting in his full effort since the Scottish Premiership season restarted.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Alfredo Morelos hasn’t looked the same since he came back, probably since January actually.

“This season he doesn’t look the same player. He looks unfit, he looks unwilling to work for the team and he doesn’t even look like he wants to score goals.

“Steven Gerrard decided to leave him out on Saturday which I thought was a good move because when you’ve got a team that are trying to stop Celtic from winning 10 titles in a row, you need everybody pulling in the right direction.

“To me it looks like the club want him out and the player wants to leave, but I just think he should show a better attitude and just work hard until that move comes.”
Is McFadden right to criticise Morelos?
You can certainly see his reasons for doing so.
Morelos may have scored a brace against St. Mirren earlier this month, but taking that performance out of the equation, he hasn’t looked anywhere near his sharpest.
After coming in to the side at the weekend, Roofe posted a pass completion rate of 90%, as well as a dribble success rate of 100%, and a shot accuracy that was 14.3% higher than Morelos’ average this season, as per Wyscout.
Most telling of all is the fact that Steven Gerrard openly spoke out after the match to admit that the decision to drop Morelos was an easy one.
That suggests that something isn’t right with the way that the South American is conducting himself, and if he is acting in a way that could be deemed disruptive to the side, then yes, he should be criticised.
