‘Wow he’s done’ – Many Rangers fans react to Morelos omission v Kilmarnock
Rangers maintained their unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership season with an impressive 2-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe were enough to ensure Steven Gerrard’s men took all three points, but in many respects it was the absence of one man in particular that really caught the eye.
Despite being fully fit and having started every other game this season, Alfredo Morelos was left out of the match day squad entirely, and many fans are convinced that we have now seen the last of the Colombian in a Rangers shirt.
The 24-year-old has been linked with an exit for some time now, with AC Milan emerging as the latest club to be keeping tabs on him, as per Football Insider.
But this does feel like a significant step towards him leaving Glasgow.
Up until this point, Gerrard has kept faith in the South American, even during his dire run of form at the end of last season which saw him score just once in 2020 before the season was curtailed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
And to be fair to Morelos, he has, for the most part, looked brighter this term.
His brace against St. Mirren gave us a glimpse of the lethal hitman of old, but if there was any doubt about where his head is at right now, this was a huge indicator.
More telling still, Gerrard made it very, very clear after the match that the decision to drop Morelos was an “easy” one.
As quoted by the BBC, he said: “I only want players who are hungry for the shirt.
“If I see people who are not focused or who have taken their eye off the ball and not really, really hungry to get this football club results, I have to make easy decisions and Alfredo made it easy for me this week.”
All things considered, those words could end up being the death knell for Morelos’ Rangers career.
