‘Most pressing concern’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce details Gerrard’s biggest problem at Rangers

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has said that Rangers need to go out and spend proper money if they want to beat Celtic to the 20/21 Premiership title.

The same old issues for Rangers came up in the 0-0 draw against Livingston on Sunday and Bruce thinks working out how to consistently beat lesser teams is the most pressing concern now for Gerrard.

Bruce added that if Gerrard didn’t spend, Rangers would fall short again.

Talking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bruce said, “Rangers were way too inconsistent last season and that’s something that Steven Gerrard would have wanted to sort out this campaign – not beating teams that they really should be.

“It was the same old problem against Livingston – a team they really need to be beating if they want to go on and win the Premiership.

“These are issues that Rangers need to sort out and I think that this will be the most pressing concern for Gerrard going forward now.

“He needs to find a way of beating the lesser teams. To go and compete with Celtic properly they really need to go and spend the money. They need to spend the money to bring in the Ntchams and the Edouards – that type of player.

“Unless they buy players of that standard I don’t think they’re going to get there.”

We think the problem for Rangers is in the midfield and it’s the one area that Gerrard seems to be unable to get to grips with.

A win against Livingston would have put Rangers in a dominating position at the top of the Premiership.

Instead, Celtic could now draw level on points if they win their two games in hand.
