Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce claims potential Hull move will be good for Rangers 23y/o

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that a move to Hull City will be beneficial to Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty as he looks to further his career.

Speaking to Ibrox News, the former Tigers defender admitted that his old club have seen better days, but also suggested that any kind of first-team football would be a bonus for the 23-year-old at this stage in his development.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard has spoken openly about his willingness to let Docherty leave if the right offer comes along for him.

As part of that, the manager admitted that talks with Hull are ongoing over a potential switch.

And the Herald has now said that Docherty has agreed personal terms as he homes in a move to Hull.

Bruce has been quick to emphasise the positives of the move.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Hull was a good club. I’m not sure if it is anymore, they’re struggling.

“Listen, any young lad leaving a club the size of Rangers, you’ve got to go somewhere and make sure you play, no matter what league it is.

“Hull were relegated and League One is a bit of a drop.

“But if he can go to Hull and get some games and play more than he is at Ibrox at the minute, then it can only be a benefit to him and his career moving forward.

“He’d have to see it as a good move.”

Docherty spent the second half of last season on loan at Hibernian, putting in an impressive run of form.

The energetic talent registered three goals and five assists in eight games across all competitions for Hibs.

It looks like he’ll now be focussed on helping Hull get back into the Championship.
