Report – St. Gallen interested in Rangers midfielder McCrorie
Swiss club St. Gallen have launched a bid to sign Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie, according to Edinburgh Live.
The 22-year-old has found himself at the centre of increased transfer speculation in recent days.
Hibernian are understood to be keen on the versatile talent, but were knocked back after submitting a £200,000 bid earlier in the week, as per the Scottish Sun.
That report suggested that McCrorie, who spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, was destined to continue his career progression at Ibrox for the time being.
Following Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over St. Johnstone, however, Steven Gerrard spoke out on the player’s future, claiming that he is free to leave the club if the right permanent offer comes along.
The manager also suggested that talks with Hibs are ongoing.
But Jack Ross’ men could face competition from the continent.
St. Gallen are understood to be keen following their runners-up finish in the Swiss Super League last season.
The Gers have a recent relationship with the club having signed striker Cedric Itten from them on a permanent deal just last week.
Is time up for McCrorie?
It looks that way, certainly.
We at Ibrox News have been open about the fact that we think another loan deal would be the best course of action for McCrorie.
But Gerrard has clearly decided that the young talent doesn’t have a future at Ibrox, and if that is the case then he needs to move on for his own development.
Hibernian certainly seems like the more natural move, especially considering the fact that no Scot has ever played in the Swiss top flight before, but if Ross’ men can’t stump up the money there’s no reason to believe that a continental switch couldn’t happen.
