Report – Hibernian fail with £200,000 bid for Rangers midfielder McCrorie

Hibernian have been priced out of a potential move for Rangers midfielder Robbie McCrorie, according to The Scottish Sun

It is understood that Jack Ross’ men have had a bid of £200,000 rejected for the 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at League One club Portsmouth.

That offer would have also included a number of add-ons, but wasn’t enough to tempt Ibrox chiefs into parting with the young talent.

The Sun suggest that any potential move for McCrorie is now all but dead in the water, and the midfielder is likely to continue his career in Glasgow this season.

The piece also states that the player was keen on making the move to Easter Road because of a lack of first team opportunities with his boyhood club.

Is this the right decision from Rangers?

In truth, we think it is.

McCrorie is still young and showed enough promise in League One last season to warrant Portsmouth retaining an interest in re-signing him this summer.

Letting him go for £200,000, regardless of the add-ons and bonus that were written into the fine print, could have been a decision that came back to bite the Gers further down the line.

That being said, McCrorie’s concerns about not getting any senior action this season is a legitimate one.

The midfielder still hasn’t been included in a Gerrard match day squad in 2020/21, and a term in the reserves would surely stunt his development.

With that in mind, another loan deal would surely be a smart idea.

That way, McCrorie could continue his growth with regular first team action, and Rangers would still have the option of calling on his talent in the future.
