‘Big cost’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce claims Barisic exit would be serious blow for Rangers
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will be desperate to hang on to Borna Barisic this summer, according to Alex Bruce.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender reiterated just how important the Croatia international is to the Gers.
A recent report from Football Insider, Premier League outfit Crystal Palace have set their sights on the left-back ahead of a potential summer swoop.
And while Bruce can understand the interest, he has emphasised just how important it is that the Gers retain the services of the 27-year-old.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Well Palace have got Patrick van Aanholt, haven’t they?
“Although, obviously, he just got that nasty injury to his arm which might make Roy dive into the market as a bit of competition for when he’s back fit I suppose.
“But yeah, I think Barisic has done alright whenever I’ve watched him. Could he could it in the Premier League? Only time will tell if he is given that opportunity because I still think there’s a big gulf between the Scottish Premiership and the English Premier League.
“He’s done okay whenever I’ve seen him, but it would be a big cost to Rangers if they did lose him. I’m sure Steven will want to keep hold him if possible.”
Barisic really kicked on from his first season in Scotland during the 2019/20 campaign, registering 14 assists in all competitions.
Football Insider don’t go as far as to specifically mention how much a move for the Croatian would cost Palace, but they do point out that he “would not come cheap”.
