Report – West Brom plot raid for Rangers talisman Morelos, Lille prepare £17m bid
West Brom are readying a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to the Daily Record.
The Baggies won promotion back to the Premier League under the guidance of Slaven Bilic this season, and are understood to be keen on bolstering their attacking options with a swoop for the Colombian hitman.
Albion are said to have failed with a bid of £12 million for Morelos last summer, but see him as the ideal man to spearhead their top flight adventure.
They could face significant competition in their bid to sign him, however.
According to the Record, French side Lille retain an interest in Morelos after recent suggestions that they had agreed personal terms with the striker.
It is understood that the Ligue 1 club are preparing an offer of around £17 million for the forward.
What does this mean for Rangers?
With each passing report, it feels less and less likely that Morelos will be a Rangers players beyond the next few weeks.
Football Insider reported earlier this month that the Gers are resigned to losing their star man, and as more and more suitors come out of the woodwork, that looks more and more likely.
The only bonus in this report is that a £17 million fee would considerably exceed the £12 million that Football Insider claimed that the Gers are now hoping for.
If £17 million is an accurate number, West Brom will have to match it, and that in itself could lead to a profitable tussle for Rangers.
Only time will tell how this one pans out, and where Morelos ends up playing his football next season, but at the very least it’s looking like an increasing probability that the Gers will have a decent wedge of cash to reinvest in an eventual replacement for El Bufalo.
