Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce has ‘no doubt’ that Gerrard will choose Rangers over big Bristol offer

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will not be motivated by money when it comes to deciding his future at the club.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender argued that the 40-year-old would be much more focussed on achieving success with the Gers than he would be on financial incentives.

According to Football Insider, Championship side Bristol City are willing to offer Gerrard £2.5 million per year to lure him away from Glasgow this summer.

But Bruce believes that the prospect of winning a league title with Rangers will be too much of a temptation for the manager to turn his back on.

Speaking to Ibrox News, when asked if silverware was more important than the boss’ salary, he said: “Of course it is.

“Realistically, he started something there at Rangers, and he wants to finish it. I’ve got no doubt that’s what he’ll be wanting to do.

“Rangers are a massive club and obviously the challenge is there for everyone to see.

“The one thing I’m sure Steven will be wanting is a little bit of help in the transfer market to go and get him a few players to go and try and rival Celtic.”

Gerrard has yet to win a trophy at Ibrox, and saw his side finish 13 points behind Celtic in the title race last season.

He has made positive moves in the transfer market already this summer, however, with South Africa midfielder Bongani Zungu the latest player to be linked with a move to Glasgow ahead of next season’ title push.
