‘Get rid of him’ – Charlie Adam urges Rangers to accept £8m fee for Alfredo Morelos
Charlie Adam has urged Rangers to “get rid” of Alfredo Morelos if they receive a bid in excess of £8 million.
The Colombian has been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer, with French outfit Lille emerging as a potential destination if he does depart in the coming weeks.
Football Insider previously reported that the Gers’ previous hopes landing a fee of around £25 million for the player have been effectively ended by the financial effects of the Coronavirus pandemic and his poor run of form in 2020.
A fee of around £12 million is now understood to be a more realistic target, but Adam has argued that the Glaswegian giants should do business at an even lower price.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “I would get rid of him. If the money comes for him, I’d get rid of him now.
“Due to Covid, I think anything between £8m-£12m and you’ve got to take it. You’re not going to get £15m or £20m, so anything between £8m and £12m you’ve got to take it and move on.
“I know he’s their best player, but you’ve got to remember the market at the moment. Sometimes you’ve just got to swallow a bit of it, or bite the bullet and go with him again.
“He scores goals but it’s the other side of his game you worry about.”
Is Adam right about this one?
Absolutely not.
At this stage, everybody associated with Rangers has accepted that we aren’t going to get £25 million for Morelos, but accepting a bid of £8 million for a player who scored just shy of 30 goals last season is insulting.
Perhaps if the South American was only scoring in the league you could understand this argument, but he was on fire in Europe too, and would be a huge asset for anybody who signed him.
If Rangers accept any kind of seven-figure fee for Morelos they are selling themselves massively short.
In other Rangers news, Alfredo Morelos has commented on reports claiming he has agreement with Lille.
