‘Obviously a problem’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce urges Rangers ace Kent to curb temper

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has argued that Rangers winger Ryan Kent must learn to channel his aggression in the right manner.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender claimed that the 23-year-old’s natural edge isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but must be harnessed in the right way so as to not be a detriment to him and his teammates.

Kent was dismissed in a friendly against Lyon earlier this month for slapping an opponent.

The wide man has also publicly clashed Celtic captain Scott Brown during an Old Firm in 2018/19, and was subsequently given a two-game ban.

And Bruce believes that he needs to learn how to curb his temper.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “It’s obviously a problem when you show petulance and get niggly, stupid sendings off.

“But when you look at all the best players, they’ve all get a little edge to them, and you wouldn’t want them to lose that edge, but you’d want them to channel it in the right way.

“I think Ryan’s still quite young, and when he gets older he might look back on these stupid sendings off that he’s getting with regret.

“He’s got to learn from his mistakes and not let it happen again because the only people it affects are him and his teammates.”

Kent contributed eight goals and four assists in all competitions for the Gers last season.

Of those goals, just two have come in the Premier League since the turn of the year.
