Ibrox Exclusive: ‘Writing is on the wall’ for Rangers midfielder Docherty, claims Bruce
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has suggested that the “writing is on the wall” for Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender argued that a player in Docherty’s position would be better off seeking out a permanent exit to try and establish himself as a regular somewhere else.
The 23-year-old has spent spells out on loan in each of the last two seasons, and is being lined up for another stint with Scottish Premiership rivals Hibernian, as per Football Insider.
But Bruce believes that he would be better off cutting his losses on his time in Glasgow and seeking a new challenge elsewhere.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think sometimes when a player is always up for loan and is nowhere near the squad, like Docherty is, I think sometimes the writing is on the wall.
“If they can get something for him, and if he can find somewhere where he’s going to be able to go and play so he can put himself out there and enjoy playing every week.
“That’s the most important thing for any player.”
Docherty impressed during his spell with Hibs last season, registering three goals and five assists in eight appearances.
Prior to that loan stint, the midfielder enjoyed an equally successful time with Shrewsbury Town, scoring 10 goals and 11 assists in 50 outings for the League One outfit.
