Jonatan Johansson reminds Rangers there is ‘good value’ in market, discusses Alfredo Morelos
Jonatan Johansson has reminded Rangers that they don’t have to spend a fortune to sign a top quality striker this summer.
The Gers could be forced into pursuing a new hitman in the coming weeks, with speculation rife about Alfredo Morelos’ future at Ibrox.
According to a recent report from Football Insider, the Glaswegian giants could be willing to accept offers as low as £12 million for the Colombian.
The 24-year-old only cost Rangers around £1 million when he signed from Finnish side HJK Helsinki in 2017, however, and Johansson has been quick to point out that there are still bargains to be had in the current market if a club is willing to look hard enough.
As quoted by the Daily Record, the former Ibrox striker said: “Rangers will know Alfredo will guarantee them goals but like every player he will have his price.
“It is expensive to get players but Alfredo only cost £1 million so he wasn’t that expensive.
“It shows there can be good value in the market if you find the right player, although you need a lot of things to fall into place.
“It takes good coaching to take them on to the next level.”
Could Rangers ever hope to find another Morelos?
The combination of good planning and great fortune it takes to sign a player of Morelos’ quality for £1 million is absurd, really.
With 29 goals this season alone, El Bufalo has paid back that fee several times over already, and if the Gers are forced into selling him this summer, even a fee of £12 million would represent a significant profit.
That being said, whether they would be able to bring in another player of Morelos’ calibre for such a paltry fee remains to be seen.
Lightning rarely strikes twice, and you can’t help feeling that even with all the goodwill and meticulous scouting in the world, it would be optimistic to expect Ibrox chiefs to unearth another gem of such dazzling value to the Gers.
