Report – Motherwell keen on loan move for Rangers winger Hastie
Motherwell have opened talks with Rangers over taking Jake Hastie back on loan next season, according to the Scottish Sun.
The 22-year-old signed for the Gers on a free transfer last summer before being shipped out to Rotherham United for the first half of the season.
The wide man registered three goals in 14 league appearances before returning to Ibrox in January.
But he has struggled to make an impact in Glasgow, and it is understood that it has been made clear that he can leave for another loan spell in 2020/21.
The report suggests that Motherwell have been alerted to the situation, and are open to making a deal to take the player back to Fir Park.
They could face competition, however, with at least one English club said to be interested in Hastie too.
Would a move to Motherwell work for Hastie?
You would imagine that a loan spell would be the best course of action for the winger next season.
After a promising start to life with Rotherham this term, his form dipped notably, and his recall to Ibrox has done little to further his prospects of regular first team football.
A move seems like a wise idea if he is to kickstart his career, and where better to go than the club where he first made his breakthrough?
Hastie had more goals per game and more successful actions per 90 minutes during his season with Motherwell in 2018/19 than he did this term, as per Wyscout, and the hope would be that he could recapture some of that influence if he were to return to his old stomping ground.
At this stage, the alternative is for him to sit in the reserves in Glasgow – and for a player of his age, that is always going to be less preferable than a spell on loan somewhere.
