Ibrox View: Stats suggest Rangers-linked Roofe would be worthy Morelos replacement
The links between Rangers and Anderlecht striker Kemar Roofe are refusing to die down.
After The Scottish Sun reported recently that the Gers were keen to snap up the 27-year-old as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos this summer, Belgian outlet Walfoot have gone one further and suggested that the club have already made a move.
The report suggests that Rangers have had a loan offer with an integrated option-to-buy worth around £5.5 million turned down.
But there is also a suggestion that talks are far from over, and that a permanent offer could prove to be more popular.
So the question is, quite simply, could Roofe actually be the man to replace Morelos is the Colombian leaves this summer?
On paper, his stats are a pretty mixed bag.

While he may have a lower goals per game rate and xG than Morelos, Roofe, actually has a higher shot accuracy rate and completes more passes and dribbles per match, as per Wyscout.
And that’s not to say he doesn’t know where the back of the net is either.
Despite enduring a stop-start campaign because of injuries, Roofe still has seven goals in 16 matches this term.
If we look at his shot map from this season, we can see that in and around the six-yard box, he is razor sharp.
Those are poachers’ goals, and speak volumes as to how Roofe reads the game and anticipates the movement of the ball in the most dangerous areas of the field.
Let’s contrast that with Morelos’ shot map.
There is a noticeably lower density of efforts from in and around the six-yard box, and an obvious drop-off in the amount of goals being scored from those positions.
Granted, Morelos has had an unusually poor 2020, and we all know that, but by looking at these to visuals, you would be inclined to argue that given the right amount of service, Roofe would do an admirable job of filling in for the South American.
