Ibrox Exclusive: Former teammate Ivan Toney would be top signing for Rangers, claims Alex Bruce

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Ivan Toney would be a “good signing” for Rangers this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender reflected back on his own time playing with the 24-year-old at Wigan Athletic, and suggested that he has the right attitude to be a success for the Gers.

Football Insider reported last  week that the Glaswegian giants are confident that the hitman can be lured away from Peterborough United for just £5 million this summer, rather than the £15 million initially quoted by Posh chief Barry Fry.

And Bruce believes Rangers would be getting a top talent if they can seal a deal.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I played with Ivan at Wigan.

“He’s obviously improved a lot now by going to Peterborough. He’s had a good season – he didn’t do badly for Wigan to be fair, the season we got promoted. He’s done very well.

“We all know that when you’ve got a striker scoring goals it’s only a matter of time before someone comes knocking, and if he does go to Rangers, one thing about him is that he knows where the back of the net is. It could potentially be a good move for him.

“The one thing everyone wants is a goalscorer, and he’s definitely one of those. He’s a really good lad, he worked hard, got good attributes. He’d be a good signing.”

Toney has been in prolific form for Peterborough this season, hitting 26 goals in 39 games across all competitions this season.

Bitter rivals Celtic have also been credited with an interest in the former Newcastle United hitman.
