Report – Rangers could face competition from Cardiff City for mooted target Dykes
Rangers could face competition in their bid to sign Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes this summer, according to the Daily Record.
The 24-year-old has emerged as a priority target for Steven Gerrard’s men, as per the Scottish Sun.
But they are not the only club who are said to be chasing the hitman, with Cardiff City, Derby County, Middlesbrough, and Blackburn Rovers.
Of those clubs, it is understood that Cardiff are the most keen on snapping up the forward this summer following an impressive campaign in which he hit 12 Scottish Premiership goals for Livi.
The Record states that the Bluebirds have watched Dykes on several occasions this term, and believe that he could be ideally suited to the physicality of the English Championship.
For their part, it is understood that Rangers are yet to make any kind of formal approach for the player.
What does this mean for Rangers?
It could throw a spanner in the works, definitely.
On the basis of this report, it sounds as if Cardiff are pretty serious about their interest in Dykes, and any kind of competition for a priority transfer target is always likely to complicate things.
In this case, a lot will ultimately rest on Livingston’s valuation of the player.
The Record suggest that the club will ask for around £1 million for the player, but it has also been claimed that they could end up demanding double that amount.
That higher valuation would likely be stumbling block for Rangers, who have already paid out £3 million for Ianis Hagi this summer.
There is always the chance that the price tag could be driven down, but the presence of Cardiff in any kind of negotiation could well lead to it creeping back up if a bidding war ensues.
