Report – Rangers close in on deals for Tony Weston and James Graham

Rangers are close to signing promising young duo Tony Weston and James Graham, according to the Daily Record

Blackpool striker Weston has been in fine form Blackpool’s youth setup this season, scoring 14 goals in the first half of the campaign before being promoted to the first team.

The 16-year-old subsequently made his senior debut against Maidstone United in the FA Cup.

The starlet cannot sign a professional deal in England until he turns 17, but rules in Scotland would allow him to agree a contract at Ibrox this summer.

It is understood that the Liverpool-born youngster is tempted by the prospect of working with Steven Gerrard.

The Record also report that the Gers are close to agreeing terms with Ross County teenager James Graham.

It is suggested that the Glaswegian giants have beaten off interest from a number of English clubs for the 15-year-old, who is expected to link up with the Bears’ academy setup.

What can we make of this?

If both deals get over the line it would certainly represent exciting business for Rangers.

Neither Weston or Graham have made much of an impact on the first team picture at their respective clubs, but the early signs are that they both have big potential.

When justifying his decision to promote Weston to the first team, Simon Grayson said: “I’ve not stopped talking to my staff about him since I watched him in a reserve game.

“He’s got 30-year-old lads behind him in the warm-up and I’ve never known a 16-year-old lead with stuff like that.”

Similarly, the fact that Graham has had trials with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool proves just how highly thought of he is already.

Both of these talents would be long term investments, but if they came good, the returns could be outstanding.
