James McFadden claims Lewis Ferguson would be ‘huge loss’ to Aberdeen if Rangers snap him up
James McFadden has claimed that Aberdeen would suffer a “huge loss” if they sold Lewis Ferguson to Rangers this summer.
The Gers are understood to be keen on the 20-year-old midfielder, who is under contract at Pittodrie until 2024.
But McFadden has argued that the Dons will be in no rush to sell the youngster, and that the player himself will be quite content with his current situation.
Speaking to BBC Sportsound, the pundit said: “I don’t think they will be keen to sell to Rangers either. If Aberdeen decide they are going to keep him then he will stay.
“He has signed a contract, knowing he is going to play and be the main player at Aberdeen.
“He has showed his intent that he is going to spend another year or two at least at Aberdeen and I don’t think they will be in a rush to sell him.
“Lewis Ferguson would be a huge loss to Aberdeen and if they want to show any ambition they will want to keep hold of him. He is a stand out for me, he drives them on, can play in so many different positions.
Will Ferguson join Rangers this summer?
McFadden doesn’t paint a particularly optimistic picture, that much is for sure.
Ferguson’s current contract, which he signed in 2019, will obviously make things a lot more difficult for the Gers if they do decide to go all out for a deal this summer.
But there are plenty who believe they should try nonetheless.
Barry Ferguson, uncle of the Aberdeen midfielder, has suggested that he would be a “very good” signing for the Ibrox giants, while Alex Rae and Mark Wilson have also spoken very highly of him.
Ferguson has also warned that any club looking to snap up his nephew will have to pay “top dollar” though, and ultimately, if it becomes a question of cost, Rangers might have to bide their time for a little longer before they make their move.
