‘Bags of ability’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce delivers verdict on Gers signing Rhian Brewster
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Rhian Brewster would be a “good signing” for Rangers this summer, according to Alex Bruce.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the Liverpool youngster has “bags of ability”, and could be the ideal player to give the Gers a boost in their title hopes without having break the bank.
The Scottish Sun reported last weekend that the 20-year-old has emerged as a potential target for Steven Gerrard this summer, who worked with the starlet during his time at Anfield.
Brewster has spent the second half of this season on loan with Swansea City, hitting four goals in 11 outings for the Championship outfit.
And Bruce believes that he could represent a shrewd piece of business for the Gers, if they can get it over the line.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I think he’d be a good signing. I think he’s got bags of ability.
“I think they do need to improve the squad and Stevie’s not going to have massive amounts of money. If it means taking a gamble or a loan on a youngster who has a bright future ahead of him, who might be a little bit cheaper than a proven player, those might be the risks that Steven has to take.
“If he goes up there and does well, he’ll play, it’s as simple as that. He’s not going to be happy going up there and sitting on the bench, why not play him up top with a Morelos?
“I’m sure he would improve the squad.”
As well as working with Gerrard at Liverpool, Brewster also has experience of working with Ibrox assistant Michael Beale from a shared stint at Chelsea.
Since Gerrard took over the top job in Glasgow, the Gers have completed loan deals for promising Anfield talents Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria, and Sheyi Ojo.
