Report – Rangers plot summer loan move for Rhian Brewster
Rangers are plotting a summer loan move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, according to The Scottish Sun.
The 20-year-old played under Steven Gerrard during his time with the Reds’ academy, and has spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign with Championship side Swansea City.
The youngster has registered four goals in 11 games for the Swans, and is expected to be sent out for a full season loan next term.
It is understood that Swansea are eager to take him on for a second term, but the Gers are also interested, and it is thought that the prospect of European football at Ibrox could given them an advantage in the race to secure his services.
Moreover, Brewster’s personal affiliations with Gerrard and Gers coach Michael Beale are seen as factors that could sway the youngster into choosing a move to Scotland.
Rangers have taken on a number of loanees from Liverpool since Gerrard assumed the role of manager in 2018, with Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria, and Sheyi Ojo all spending stints in Glasgow.
Would Brewster be a good signing for the Gers?
Yes, without a doubt.
The 20-year-old is very highly thought of by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, and has shown that he is capable of performing at a senior level during his spell with Swansea this season.
Four goals in 11 outings is not a bad return for a young striker in the Championship, and he already has a higher dribble success rate and cross accuracy than Alfredo Morelos, as per Wyscout.
Giving him the opportunity to further his development alongside a veteran striker as accomplished as Jermain Defoe would only be a good thing, and the nature of a loan deal would mean that the Gers were committing to a low risk venture that could yield fantastic results in the goalscoring department.
Brewster looks to have a big future ahead of him, and bringing him to Ibrox at such a formative stage in his career is a really exciting prospect.
