Ibrox Exclusive: Bruce claims Foderingham will have grown ‘frustrated’ during Rangers stint

We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…

Alex Bruce has claimed that Wes Foderingham will have grown “frustrated” by his recent experiences with Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the goalkeeper’s patience must have worn thin after he was priced out of an exit from the Glaswegian giants despite playing second fiddle to Allan McGregor for the vast majority of Steven Gerrard’s tenure in Glasgow.

The Gers confirmed last month that the 29-year-old will be one of a number of first team players who will not renew their current contracts, and who will leave the club this summer.

Earlier this week, Foderingham made an appearance on the Open Goal podcast, suggesting that he had previously been priced out of a potential transfer by Ibrox chiefs, and revealing that Gerrard made it very clear to him that he was not his type of player in a meeting between the two.

And Bruce has argued that his annoyance is justified.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “I’m sure Wes is probably a little bit frustrated by what’s gone on.

“Obviously, judging by his quotes, he is frustrated. They priced him out of a move a few years ago. The best thing for him is to get in somewhere where he’s going to play games and just get back enjoying playing football again.

“Only Steven and Wes know what’s gone on in that meeting, in that room. But if anyone’s going to know that lad it’s going to be Steven because he’s worked with him for the last couple of years.

“I think sometimes it’s better to keep your head down, keep your counsel, even though it may be difficult at times because you can get frustrated, especially by managers.”

Foderingham has spoken out about his frustration before, telling the Herald back in January that he felt as if he had wasted the last two years of his career.

The Englishman has managed just 13 outings since Gerrard took over at Ibrox in 2018.

In other Rangers news, Martin O’Neill claims Rangers boss Gerrard needs to be given more time to catch Celtic.
