Steven Davis ‘delighted’ by Rangers confirmation of Charlie Lindsay signing

Rangers veteran Steven Davis has claimed that he is “delighted” that the club have completed the signing of teenage talent Charlie Lindsay.

The 16-year-old Northern Ireland youth international was announced as a Gers player on Friday afternoon after wrapping up a move from Glentoran, subject to international clearance.

The creative midfielder previously underwent a trial period with the Glaswegian giants earlier this year, winning Player of the Tournament as he competed for the U17s at the Alkass International Cup and drawing comparisons to Wayne Rooney.

And Davis has taken to Twitter to praise the Gers for getting a deal over the line.

Writing on his personal account, he said: “Delighted a young player with huge potential and fellow countryman has joined Rangers.

“Excited to see how his career develops for club & country!”

Is Davis right to be excited by Lindsay’s arrival?

We think so, yes.

After The Scottish Sun reported back in April that Lindsay had emerged as a potential target for the Gers following his trial spell in Glasgow, Ibrox News took a closer look at the performances that drew those comparisons to Wayne Rooney, and we were mightily impressed.

Direct and nimble in possession, Lindsay also has a killer instinct in front of goal, and judging by the 30-yard free-kick he casually dispatched as well, a real eye for the spectacular.

At 16, it would be a surprise if we saw him in the first team picture anytime soon, but that being said, Football Insider suggest that Steven Gerrard has already earmarked Kai Kennedy for a potential senior role in 2020/21 – and he only just turned 18 at the end of March.

For now, however, we should just be content knowing that we have managed to wrap up a deal for a youngster who looks to have all the hallmarks of a huge future ahead of him.
