‘Let’s get this straight’ – McCoist sends Rangers warning after update on reported target

Ally McCoist has fired Rangers a warning over Charlton striker Lyle Taylor after it was revealed he wouldn’t play the remaining Championship games this season.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer shared that his marquee player won’t be finishing the season at the Valley, with his contract running out this campaign.

The EFL has confirmed that clubs can agree contract extensions to cover the remaining games of the season – something Taylor won’t be doing.

McCoist claimed that it will make Rangers question their decision and the influence that Taylor could have in the Ibrox dressing room.

“Absolutely, I don’t care what anybody says, if I was a manager, first thing you do is your homework and your due diligence on players you are signing,” he said on talkSPORT.

“Understandably you want to find out what type of person they are in the dressing room. What kind of influence they will have in the dressing room.”

“I’m not saying, let’s get this straight, that he’s a bad influence in the dressing room, clearly he won’t be.”

Journalist Bruce Archer confirmed that the Gers were interested in Taylor back in January, and this latest update will surely give them confidence in their pursuit.

Taylor has been in great form this season, and although this doesn’t show him in the greatest of lights, Steven Gerrard would be smart to snap up the forward for free.

The experienced forward could follow Ianis Hagi through the door at Ibrox after the Romanian’s permanent switch was recently confirmed.
